Antioxidants offer skin a way to protect itself more effectively against the destructive effects of free radicals. Our bodies naturally produce free radicals and antioxidants in equal proportions. This only becomes problematic when an imbalance occurs and the free radicals can no longer be neutralised. This imbalance, known as oxidative stress, is induced by both external factors (pollution, sun, tobacco) and internal ones (emotions, particularly stress). Being subjected to this stress will alter the skin’s cells and building blocks. This phenomenon partly explains the skin’s loss of elasticity and resistance, as well as the appearance of wrinkles, brown spots and other skin problems that come with age.

There are two solutions for fighting free radicals. The first consists of reducing the effects of oxidative stress by protecting the body (cells, proteins and DNA) against these attacks. The second consists of reinforcing the effectiveness of the skin’s antioxidant mechanisms to better neutralise and reduce the production of free radicals.
